Let's Talk Color Theory

 (but make it make sense)

You know those days when you get dressed and somehow… you just look good?
Like your skin glows, your eyes pop, and you don’t even need as much makeup?

Yeah, that’s not an accident.
It’s color theory at work.

So what is color theory?

In the simplest terms?
It’s the science behind why some colors make you look amazing—and others… not so much.

Every person has a unique combination of skin, hair, and eye tones. That combo determines what seasonal color palette looks best on you. When the colors you wear support that palette, you look brighter, younger, and more alive.

When they don’t (hello, olive green sweater that never quite worked)? You might look washed out, tired, or just “off.”

Hue

The temperature of a color, such that warmer colors generally contain more yellow and cooler colors are bluer.

Chroma

How much gray is visible along with the pigment – high chroma colors contain very little or no visible gray, making them brighter/clearer.

12 seasons. Infinite clarity.

At COLORCODE®, we use the 12-season color analysis system—because getting dressed shouldn’t feel like guesswork.

Instead of just sticking everyone into basic “warm” or “cool” tones, this system digs a little deeper. You’ll land in one of 12 possible color seasons like:

  • Dark Winter
  • Soft Autumn
  • Light Summer
  • (and 9 more…)

Each one has a set of colors that harmonize with your natural tones—and a few to avoid.

“It’s just a color. Does it really make that much of a difference?”

Oh, friend… it does.

I used to waste hundreds of dollars on cute clothes that never felt right once I put them on. Trendy? Sure. My color? Nope.

They hung in my closet like strangers—and eventually ended up in a donation bag.

But once I discovered Color Theory and found my Bright Winter palette?

Let’s just say, getting dressed got way easier. And I felt way more like myself.
